CNN investigation indicates that Nuedexta, a medical drug approved by the FDA to treat a very rare disorder marked by sudden and uncontrollable laughing or crying -- known as pseudobulbar affect, or PBA (affecting less than 1% of all Americans), is aggressively prescribed to the elderly suffering from dementia and Alzheimer's disease in nursing homes for whom the drug may be unnecessary or even unsafe.

Dr. Ayati, Adjunct Assistant Professor of Medicine at Stanford University School of Medicine will present Changes in Sleep Patterns as We Age at the Stanford Nursing Grand Rounds on Oct 16. A recent international aging index compared health, equality and social cohesion in the aging populations among 18 countries and it indicated that the US performed well with an overall score of 59.8 out of 100. It came third behind Norway, with a score of 65, and Sweden, with a score of 62.
